Futon History

Many of us aren't aware that futons aren't a new invention. They have also evolved from different styles and vary by country. Western futons are thick and heavy. They usually rest on a foldable frame and function as a couch during the day. This is great if you have limited space in your apartment.

The original futons came from Asia. Unlike western futons these original futons aren't supported on a bed frame. They rest on the floor at night without supports. Asia style futons are periodically aired out to allow the fabric and materials to refresh. Otherwise they are stored in a cupboard during the day. Futons are soft and don't tend to provide a lot of back support. Most don't contain springs and are just stuffed with cotton or other material. Some have button tufting to keep the interior material in place.
